About

Kim Rempel is a visual artist living in Grimsby, Ontario. After graduating from Sheridan College’s Illustration program (Major: Book Illustration, Minor: Advertising) Rempel worked as a graphic designer. In the early 2000s she traded the computer for the paintbrush and began working primarily as a plein air painter. In 2009 Rempel joined the ranks of daily painters (the practice of creating a small works daily and posting them to a blog). She continued this practice until 2013 when she moved into abstract painting.

Rempel: Although many things go into creating a successful painting, colour relationships are what fuels my work. What does this stroke look like against that stroke? What happens to the mood of a piece when I mix this colour in with those colours? These questions excite me and propel me to keep investigating and creating.

Rempel is represented by Canvas Gallery in Toronto and Koyman Galleries in Ottawa.

“We view a lot of images every day but then one day, you walk by a painting and you stop. Something about it stirs you. It could be a feeling the colours are giving you or something in the subject that brings back a private memory. It’s personal. And it takes you to another place.” Rempel
